Strategies
Near Term: Administration will authorize a staff development budget to Unison’s faculty. This budget amount will reflect Unison’s historical staff development expenditure. However, Unison has not utilized its staff development allocation, and administration will target the additional funds towards Unison’s deficit areas.
Administrators will observe new teachers and struggling veteran teachers more frequently, with the observations focusing on the targeted areas for improvement. The faculty will share individual successes and ideas through a weekly “faculty newsletter,” The guidance department and PTO will institute an after-school tutoring program for struggling students.
Medium Term: Guidance will institute new procedures for welcoming new parents into the district. Administration will formalize these procedures so that they eventually will become part of the school culture.
Administration will meet with the PTO in order to develop ways for parent volunteers to be more involved with student tutoring and remediation. Present PTO members will seek to increase membership among present families in the district.
Long Term : The administration must increase observations. Administration will recognize quality teaching through a program that rewards teachers for making a difference. Other, less skilled teachers will receive the help that they need to improve.
Administration will shake up the grade levels, moving some excellent teachers from the lower grades up, while some of the struggling teachers will move down a grade. Some excellent teachers will serve on leadership and mentor teams.
